Theoretical Knowledge (Self-Study)

Through SSI’s proprietary app (MySSI), you will be able to self-study the Advanced Adventurer course materials and complete all requisite knowledge review questions online at your own pace and convenience, before the in-water training.

Day 1

08.30 am : Report at STAR Marina Jetty and travel to the dive centre at Sepanggar Island with the dive crew.

- Distribution of dive gears and equipment

- Dive 1 (Checkout dive)

- Dives 2 & 3 (Perfect buoyancy, navigation & boat dive)

- Lunch

4.30 pm : Transfer back to mainland.

Day 2

08.30 am : Report at STAR Marina Jetty and travel to the dive centre at Sepanggar Island with the dive crew.

- Dives 4 & 5 ( Deep dive & waves, tides and currents)

- Lunch

4.30 pm : Transfer back to mainland.

Exact itinerary and order of specialty dives may vary depending on each student’s pace of progress.

Have your Open Water license and want more? Our Advanced Adventurer course consists of 5 dives in the beautiful  Sepanggar Island, focusing on specific skills to take your deep blue adventures to the next level. This course includes specialized skills in deep dive, perfect buoyancy, navigation, boat dive and waves, tides and currents, and is the SSI equivalent to PADI’s Advanced Open Water course.

Instructor's Profile

With over 20 years of diving experience, Desmond Chong is the first and only SSI Instructor Trainer with active teaching status in Sabah as of January 2021. This is the highest, most prestigious rank in recreational scuba diving. Prior to his

crossover to SSI in February 2019, Desmond was a PADI instructor for 15 years, holding ranks of Instructor Development Courses (IDC) Staff Instructor and Master Scuba Diving Instructor.

Desmond’s diving adventures have landed him various dive-based positions in some of the most renowned diving destinations in the world, including Mabul Island, Maldives, Koh Tao, Phuket and Koh Lipe. Aside from being an avid dive instructor, Desmond has also been heavily involved in the supervision of dive course and dive expedition set ups, ensuring that proper safety and risk management standards are met.
